Hilda has always been extremely interested in the life and wonderful art of Vincent van Gogh, and had studied the three volumes of his letters, mostly to his brother Theo. This culminated in writing the play and lyrics for her Musical Drama ‘Vincent—The Flame Burns Bright’ with the beautiful music composed by her son, talented musician Wernher Pramschufer.
The story follows the life of Vincent from his childhood through to his sad self-inflicted death, depriving the world of more of his extraordinary art. In the play a mysterious being, the Flame of creativity constantly pursues him.
Vincent was first performed by an enthused cast at the MacRobert Theatre, University of Stirling. The actual making of the musical drama was filmed by the late Adrian Vitoria, for Channel 4. and entitled ‘Roll Over Lloyd Webber’.
In 2005 excerpts from the musical were performed in Brisbane with the Brisbane Philharmonic Orchestra.
The Quarrel, Vincent and Gaugin.
Flame with Vincent.
THE FLAME BURNS BRIGHT
The Flame burns bright
in the stills of the night,
With a passion consuming his heart,
It will burn fierce and strong,
Life’s journey along,
Setting fire to his wild stormy art.
SHIMMERING STARS
Shimmering stars in the night,
Twirling and Swirling and bright,
Casting your net of bright shining love,
Drawing the should to that mystery above.
Beckoning, compelling,
Heaven's music swelling,
Forever caught in your spell.
